To continue caring for the lives and development of new immigrants from Hong Kong and Macau in Taiwan, Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) Counselor Lu Chung-ni led representatives from the MAC, the Taiwan-Hong Kong Economic and Cultural Co-operation Council (THEC), the National Immigration Agency, and the Straits Exchange Foundation to Keelung today (21st) to participate in the "Mobile Service Train" event. They visited Hong Kong immigrant Guo Feng-lin to learn about her life and business in Taiwan, and to hear her story of settling in Keelung, realizing her entrepreneurial dream, and giving back to the local community.
Guo Feng-lin was born in Hong Kong and moved to Taiwan in 2016 after marrying her husband. The following year, they founded "First Sight Coffee" near the Ren'ai Market in Keelung. In addition to serving Hong Kong-style snacks, the cafe collaborates with the local National Taiwan Ocean University to provide a venue for monthly handicraft workshops, multicultural exchange activities, and street performances that combine art with community engagement, gradually becoming an important hub for local cultural exchange in Keelung.
Guo said that opening a cafe was her childhood dream. Although she faced difficulties when she first started the business, along with challenges like the pandemic, she was fortunate to receive collaboration invitations from National Taiwan Ocean University and the Geopark, which helped her gain a foothold in the community. She is grateful for the cafe as a foundation, which allows her more time to develop her interest in art, and she hopes to give back to the community through the cafe, allowing kindness to circulate.
Lu Chung-ni stated that Guo Feng-lin's move to Taiwan, her brave pursuit of dreams, and her hard work demonstrate resilience and vitality. Despite difficulties, she never gave up and now uses her abilities to give back to her home in Taiwan, becoming a true Taiwanese. Her story is a model for new immigrants actively integrating into Taiwan, as she combines personal dreams with social contribution.
THEC mentioned that the "Taiwan-Hong Kong Service Exchange Office" provides consultation services for friends from Hong Kong and Macau regarding residency, settlement, education, employment, and life adaptation. The consultation hotline is (02) 2700-3199, symbolizing the government's "long-lasting goodwill" toward friends from Hong Kong and Macau. Everyone is welcome to make use of it.
