New Taipei City Library celebrates International Migrants Day, inviting new residents to share their home culture

To celebrate International Migrants Day on December 18, several branches of the New Taipei City Library are launching the "Multicultural Traveler" event. New residents from Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and other countries are invited to serve as lecturers to share their home cultures, and participants can also experience traditional Southeast Asian costumes and exchange them for gifts. The New Taipei City Library issued a press release stating that December 18 is International Migrants Day. To encourage new residents to make more use of the library, the Xinzhuang Yumin, United, Fuying, Wanli, Jinshan, and Zhonghe branches will launch the "Multicultural Traveler" series of activities from the 18th to the 31st. New residents from Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, and other countries are invited to serve as multicultural lecturers to share their home cultures. On the 19th, the Xinzhuang Yumin branch will invite Cao Hanni and Luo Lianxin from Indonesia to introduce Indonesian culture through handmade shadow puppet shows and "Indonesian Congklak." On the 20th, the Fuying branch will have Thai and Vietnamese lecturers lead everyone in playing traditional games such as coconut shell walking, pitch-pot, and bingo. On the 20th and 27th, the Zhonghe branch will make the unique Philippine Christmas ornament "Parol" and Thai water lanterns to learn about the festival cultures of the two countries. The library is also launching exclusive learning courses for new residents, including "Practical Application of Mobile Generative AI" at the Zhonghe branch on the 18th. On the 20th, the Wanli branch will invite Huang Chunzhuang, a Vietnamese woman who has been married in Taiwan for 16 years, to teach new residents how to make good use of free government resources. On the 22nd, the Jinshan branch will invite local masters to teach new residents how to make the Taiwanese snack "Taro Kueh" starting from peeling taro. In addition, the Zhonghe branch will also offer a traditional costume experience for new residents on the 18th and 19th. By borrowing 5 books, you can wear traditional Southeast Asian costumes from Vietnam, Thailand, and Indonesia, and upload photos to Facebook to redeem limited-edition gifts.
