In 2022, former KMT legislator Lee Te-wei accused then-Minister of Health and Welfare Hsueh Jui-yuan and CDC Director-General Chou Jih-haw of profiteering from the Medigen vaccine company, publicly insulting them as "shameless" and "manipulating the law." After the Taipei District Prosecutors Office closed the case due to lack of evidence of wrongdoing, Hsueh and Chou filed a civil lawsuit for damages. The Taiwan High Court issued its second-instance ruling today (22nd), upholding the original verdict and ordering Lee Te-wei to pay 600,000 NTD each to Hsueh and Chou, totaling 1.2 million NTD. As the second-instance ruling is final, Lee Te-wei cannot appeal further, meaning his liability is now settled.
