The U.S.-Taiwan Initiative on 21st-Century Trade (ART) has eased regulations on the import of sprouted potatoes, raising concerns about food safety risks. In response, the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) stated today (17th) that U.S. processed potatoes imported into Taiwan must undergo dual oversight through border inspections and health standards. If there is spoilage or excessive solanine content, the entire potato must be discarded to ensure public food safety.
