Continuous heavy rainfall has affected Pingtung, with agricultural disaster losses accumulating to over NT$130 million. The Ministry of Agriculture has announced that all types of agricultural, fishery, and livestock industries in Pingtung County are included in the scope of natural disaster cash assistance. Pingtung County Magistrate Chou Chun-mi stated that they will fully assist in applying for various forms of aid to accelerate recovery. Pingtung County Government announced in a press release today (28th) that as of 10 AM today, the affected area of crops across the county has reached 878 hectares, with accumulated losses exceeding NT$94.4 million. Fourteen livestock and poultry farms reported disaster losses, amounting to approximately NT$3.06 million. Fishery losses cover an area of 88.82 hectares, with accumulated losses exceeding NT$33.51 million, particularly severe for farmed species like Thai shrimp, hybrid groupers, and silver pomfret. Chou Chun-mi stated that agriculture is the foundation of Pingtung, and farmers are the most hardworking people supporting this land. The heavy rainfall has caused severe damage to crops. As some crops may still experience delayed damage, the actual losses are likely to continue to expand. The team will continue to work closely with the central government on the front lines, striving for various resources to fully assist farmers in reporting disaster damage, applying for natural disaster cash assistance, and subsequent recovery and restocking efforts, serving as the strongest support for farmers. The Pingtung County Government explained that the Ministry of Agriculture has successively announced Pingtung County as an area for agricultural natural disaster cash assistance and low-interest loans due to heavy rainfall in late June 2026. For crops, applications will be accepted from June 27th to July 10th. For aquaculture, eight townships and cities, including Jiuru, Ligang, Xinyuan, Wandan, Linluo, Linbian, Donggang, and Jiadong, have been designated as assistance areas, with the application period from June 28th to July 10th. For the livestock industry, the entire county has been announced as an area for natural disaster cash assistance and low-interest loans, with the application period also from June 28th to July 10th. The County Government urges all township and city offices with disaster situations to promptly conduct disaster reporting and inspection operations in accordance with the Regulations for Natural Disaster Assistance for Agriculture and the Guidelines for Natural Disaster Assistance Operations for Agricultural Industries. They should also appropriately increase manpower based on the case volume to expedite the application and inspection progress, thereby safeguarding farmers' rights.
