The BWF Super 300-level US Open Badminton Championships kicked off today (23rd). A total of 24 Taiwanese pairs will compete starting from the main draw. "Ace" Chou Tien-chen is participating for the second consecutive year and will face compatriot Huang Yu-chi in the first round. 70-Year History of the US Open The BWF Super 300-level US Open Badminton Championships, with a total prize money of $250,000 USD (approximately NT$7.9 million), has been held in Fullerton, Los Angeles, since its inception in 1954. Taiwanese players have a good track record in this tournament, having won a total of 17 championships. Men's singles and men's doubles have each seen 4 titles, with the most recent being Lai Po-yu and Tseng Po-hsuan in men's doubles last year. Warming Up for the Los Angeles Olympics Among the top 15 ranked men's singles players in the BWF, only World No. 6 Chou Tien-chen and India's ace, World No. 14 Lakshya Sen, are participating. They are seeded No. 1 and No. 2 respectively. Chou Tien-chen also competed last year, ultimately reaching the semi-finals. He told reporters, "My decision to compete this year is also to better adapt to the environment, climate, and transportation routes in the United States, allowing me to prepare in advance for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics." Taiwanese players have won 4 men's singles titles in the history of this event, including Chen Feng (who transferred from Indonesia to Taiwan in 1998), Chien Yu-hsiu in 2003, Hsieh Yu-hsing in 2005, and Lin Chun-yi in 2019.
