The Central Weather Administration pointed out that today (the 20th), under the influence of the Pacific high-pressure system, the weather will be more stable, with sunny to cloudy conditions across the island. It will be hot with high temperatures, and only mountainous areas will experience isolated scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon. High temperatures will generally reach 32 to 36 degrees Celsius, with temperatures in some areas north of Taoyuan, near mountains in central and southern Taiwan, and in the East Rift Valley potentially being even higher. Taitung may even experience Föhn winds. Around noon, UV radiation will be strong, easily reaching excessive or dangerous levels. Be sure to wear sunscreen and drink plenty of fluids when going outdoors.
Offshore island weather: Penghu will be sunny to cloudy, with temperatures between 26 and 30 degrees Celsius; Kinmen will be sunny to cloudy, with temperatures between 26 and 31 degrees Celsius; Matsu will be sunny to cloudy, with temperatures between 26 and 29 degrees Celsius.
Due to strong southwesterly winds, Green Island and Matsu may experience localized areas with average wind speeds of level 6 or higher, or gusts of level 8 or higher. Please be cautious during activities near the sea.
The tropical depression (TD07) that was previously located west of Guam developed into Tropical Storm Mikala (MEKKHALA, named by Thailand) at 2 AM on the 20th, with its center approximately 2,070 kilometers east-southeast of Eluanbi. It is forecast to move northwest by west, then turn north towards the waters south of the Ryukyu Islands. Its future path will be mainly influenced by the strength of the Pacific high-pressure system and remains uncertain. Please pay attention to the latest typhoon forecast information. Starting next Tuesday (the 23rd), there is a chance of long swells along the coasts of Keelung's North Coast, eastern Taiwan (including Orchid Island and Green Island), and the Hengchun Peninsula. Please be sure to exercise caution during activities near the sea.
According to the Environmental Protection Administration's air quality forecast, the prevailing wind direction today will be southwesterly. Northern Taiwan will be downwind, making pollutants slightly prone to accumulation, and ozone concentrations may slightly increase in the afternoon. The air quality in the Zhunan, Central, Yunlin-Chiayi-Tainan, Kaohsiung-Pingtung, Yilan, and Hualien air quality zones, as well as Matsu, Kinmen, and Penghu, will be at 'Good' level. The air quality in the Northern air quality zone will be at 'Moderate' level. (Editor: Liu Hsiang-hua)
