Following the conclusion of her itinerary at the Group of Seven (G7) Summit, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi held a press conference in France on the 17th. She did not directly respond to questions about whether Taiwan was discussed during her brief conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump at the summit. This was Takaichi's first G7 Summit as Prime Minister. During her participation in the G7 in France, she had a brief conversation of about 5 minutes with Trump on the sidelines on the 16th, local time. According to TV Asahi, when asked if Taiwan was discussed, Takaichi stated at a press conference in Archamps, a city in eastern France, that they "exchanged views on the Indo-Pacific situation, including China." Regarding relations with China, Takaichi emphasized, "Japan maintains an open attitude towards various dialogues and will continue to respond calmly and appropriately from the perspective of national interests." She also pointed out that she proposed a cooperation mechanism for a common reserve of rare earths among countries at the G7 Summit, and stressed that the relevant content "has been successfully incorporated into the outcome document." Furthermore, Takaichi explained Japan's government's stance on the situation in the Indo-Pacific region and various issues, including those in areas involving China, and stated that G7 leaders have unanimously agreed to cooperate in addressing them. Regarding the situation in the Middle East, when asked if Japan would dispatch the Self-Defense Forces to the Strait of Hormuz, Takaichi said, "Currently, there are no specific decisions." According to the Nikkei, U.S. President Trump stated at a press conference after the G7 Summit's closing that he had asked Takaichi if Japan would participate in military operations against Iran, but was refused. Trump described, "I asked her, 'Do you want to participate a little,' and she replied, 'I don't want to participate.'" Trump also said that not only Japan but also other European countries in the G7 avoided providing cooperation during the ongoing conflict. Trump expressed dissatisfaction, saying, "I think everyone wants to participate now. I am a little disappointed." As for Takaichi, Trump highly praised her, saying, "She is a big fan of mine," and "She is doing a fantastic job." (Editor: Hsu Chia-yuan) Source Link: https://www.rti.org.tw/news?uid=3&pid=215251
