The British higher education ranking agency QS released the 2027 World University Rankings, with National Taiwan University (NTU) ranking 54th, its best ever. NTU stated today (18th) that it has made progress in areas such as academic performance, internationalization, graduate employability and impact, and sustainability. The British higher education ranking agency QS released the 2027 World University Rankings. Four universities in Taiwan entered the top 200 in the world, the largest number ever. Among them, National Taiwan University ranked 54th globally and 17th in Asia, its best performance to date. NTU explained that the 54th ranking is its best ever, an improvement of 9 places from the previous year (QS 2026) when it was ranked 63rd. The number of universities evaluated by QS grew from 8,467 last year to 8,808 this year. Despite fierce competition, NTU's ranking has improved, mainly reflected in academic performance, internationalization, graduate employability and impact, and sustainability. Taking academic performance as an example, NTU has continuously improved its citation impact. In the previously released 2026 QS subject rankings, NTU had 5 major fields in the world's top 100 with improvements, 7 subjects ranked in the world's top 50, and for the first time, a subject ranked in the world's top 10 (Classics and Ancient History, 6th in the world). NTU mentioned that it has also made significant progress in internationalization, such as the number of international students and diversity. In recent years, NTU has actively promoted internationalization by deepening cooperation with key sister universities, strengthening participation in international higher education and academic organizations, and promoting joint international research centers/laboratories. It has also promoted various talent mobility programs, such as the "International Mentorship Program" and the "International NGO Talent School," to foster international exchange and attract international talent. NTU President Wen-Chang Chen stated that although there has been steady growth in academic performance and internationalization, the university will continue to humbly reference university rankings and strive for continuous improvement. Efforts will continue in recruiting international talents and faculty, enhancing the diversity of international cooperation networks, strengthening global academic connections, and fulfilling its university responsibilities to cultivate talents needed by the nation and society. NTU also thanks the Ministry of Education's Higher Education Sprout Project, government departments, and industries for their various subsidies and collaborations, which have enabled the university's overall performance to move forward.
