To accelerate the connection of our country's green products to the global green consumption market, the Ministry of Environment announced today (17th) that this year, through the Global Ecolabeling Network (GEN), it will first achieve mutual recognition with Japan's "Eco Mark" and plans to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on label cooperation with the U.S. Global Electronics Council (GEC). This move will simultaneously advance cooperation projects with the U.S. and Japan, symbolizing that our country's eco-label is officially evolving from an domestic green consumption identifier to an international green market pass. The Ministry of Environment stated that our country's eco-label product system is mature. The total scale of green procurement by public and private sectors in 2025 has reached NT$119.4 billion, with 5,369 valid labeled products. To transform the domestic solid green capacity into an international trade advantage, the Ministry of Environment signed a "Memorandum of Understanding on Eco-label Cooperation" with the Japan Environment Association at the end of last year, marking the starting point for renewed Taiwan-Japan cooperation. This year, the cooperation between the two sides will officially enter substantive "mutual recognition," initially focusing on the "information products" and "imaging equipment" categories. This will significantly simplify the redundant verification processes and testing costs for bilateral enterprises, opening the door to the Japanese green procurement market for relevant Taiwanese businesses with international supply chain potential. Furthermore, the Ministry of Environment is actively exploring another path this year – integration into international standards. The EPEAT label promoted by the U.S. Global Electronics Council (GEC) is the global standard for information and communication technology products. As a major hub for the global computer and information industry, Taiwan will sign a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation with the U.S. GEC this year to assist our manufacturers in obtaining the EPEAT label, thereby enhancing the value and international exposure of our technological products in the global green supply chain. The Ministry of Environment emphasized that Taiwan is a founding member of the Global Ecolabeling Network (GEN), possessing a long-term foundation for international standard exchange. Moreover, our country's eco-label product system is mature, with leading quality and quantity, serving as a solid backing for entering the international market. In the future, the Ministry of Environment will continue to build upon mutual trust between certification bodies, deepen bilateral consultations with member countries, empower domestic certified manufacturers, jointly promote cross-border green trade, drive Taiwan's green industry to new export peaks, and steadily advance towards the 2050 net-zero transition.
