The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that Taiwan will continue to cooperate with like-minded partners to jointly defend the rules-based international order and contribute to regional peace, stability, and prosperity. #Reported by reporter Wang Chao-kun# The G7 Leaders' Summit was held in Evian, France, from the 15th to the 17th. Afterwards, a "G7 leaders’ statement on geopolitical issues" was released, highlighting the importance of establishing a free and open Indo-Pacific region based on the rule of law. It reiterated a firm opposition to any unilateral attempts to change the status quo in the East China Sea, South China Sea, and Taiwan Strait through force or coercion, stating that relevant issues should be resolved peacefully through dialogue. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the G7 Leaders' Summit statement reiterates its support for peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, indicating that maintaining the status quo in the Taiwan Strait has become an international consensus. As a responsible democratic nation in the Indo-Pacific region, Taiwan will continue to cooperate with G7 member states and global partners who share similar values. Deputy Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Public Affairs Department, Chen Yi-chun, said: "(Original sound) We will work hand-in-hand to maintain the rules-based international order and jointly promote democratic, peaceful, and prosperous development in the Indo-Pacific region." The "Chair's Summary" issued at the G7 Summit held in Canada last June mentioned that the G7 continues to be gravely concerned about China's destabilizing actions in the East China Sea and South China Sea, as well as the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. The 2024 G7 Summit in Italy released a "Joint Statement," which not only emphasized that peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait are indispensable for international security and prosperity but also, for the first time, included language supporting Taiwan's meaningful participation in international organizations.
