Border inspection finds heavy metals in Japanese seafood again; Singaporean premium ice cream paper trays contain fluorescent agents

Liu Fang-ming, Director of the Northern Center of the FDA, stated: '(Audio) A batch of Chinese paper trays declared by Ling Yun Co., Ltd. was found to contain fluorescent whitening agents. According to the "Sanitation Standard for Food Utensils, Containers and Packages," fluorescent whitening agents are prohibited and must be returned or destroyed. The FDA has adjusted the inspection rate for Ling Yun Co., Ltd. at the border to 20% to 50%.' Seafood products imported from Japan by Neptune Co., Ltd. have repeatedly failed inspections due to excessive heavy metals. This time, Japanese squid declared by Neptune Co., Ltd. was found to contain 2 mg/kg of cadmium. According to the "Sanitation Standard for Contaminants and Toxins in Food," the limit for cadmium in cephalopods (excluding viscera) is 1 mg/kg. The 3 kg batch was intercepted at the border. The FDA has adjusted the inspection rate for Neptune Co., Ltd. to 100% (batch-by-batch inspection). Additionally, 'TEH GELAS' herbal tea from Indonesia, available on domestic shopping platforms, was found to have non-compliant sweetener levels. All 650 boxes, totaling 2,730 kg, were returned or destroyed.
