They visited the Legislative Yuan this morning, where they were received by Legislative Yuan Vice President Johnny Chiang, along with Democratic Progressive Party Legislator Chen Kuan-ting (陳冠廷), Kuomintang Legislator Chen Yung-kang (陳永康), and Taiwan People's Party Legislator Hung Yu-hsiang (洪毓祥).
In his opening remarks, Chiang welcomed the visit from the "Congressional Black Caucus." He noted that this year marks the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States. At this significant moment, Taiwan-U.S. relations and exchanges in various fields are developing closely. Particularly in economic and trade relations, bilateral trade exceeded $240 billion last year, making Taiwan the U.S.'s fourth-largest trading partner and the U.S. Taiwan's largest. Furthermore, the relationship between the peoples of both sides is becoming increasingly close.
Chiang: "(Original audio) More importantly, this weekend, President Han will also lead a bipartisan delegation from our Legislative Yuan to visit the United States again by invitation. Of course, we will also participate in activities related to the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, and we will also visit Congress and other relevant dignitaries."
Chiang also expressed anticipation for exchanges between the governments and cities of both sides, believing that comprehensive exchanges will help enhance bilateral relations. Especially in the face of new technologies, geopolitical environments, the rise of AI, and digital transformation, cooperation among democratic partners is even more crucial. This is also an important direction for the continued deepening and strengthening of Taiwan-U.S. relations in the future.
In her remarks, McBath stated that Taiwan-U.S. relations are based on mutual trust, innovation, and cooperation. For decades, the U.S. has valued stable Taiwan-U.S. relations and believes that regional stability in Taiwan is very important for U.S. development.
McBeth: "(English original audio) We hope that this delegation's visit can once again emphasize the strong partnership and long-term support between Taiwan and the United States, and we also hope to contribute to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. The close relationship between Taiwan and the United States will be the foundation of our economic development."
McBath added that visiting the Legislative Yuan is a very important opportunity for Taiwan and the U.S. to reaffirm their cooperative relationship, reiterate U.S. Congressional support for Taiwan, and further explore economic and trade cooperation and obtain firsthand local information. She also expressed hope for more frequent exchanges in the future. (Editor: Shen Chen-chiang)
