Europe's largest microelectronics industry cluster, "Silicon Saxony," celebrates its 25th anniversary this year and hosted "Silicon Saxony Days 2026" on the 15th. Taiwan was selected as the official "Special Partner Country" for the first time. Ambassador to Germany, Kuei Chung-liang, was invited to deliver a speech, emphasizing that Taiwan's semiconductor industry is a global model for successful de-risking and resilience. Ambassador Kuei also expressed hope that the association would further assist German SMEs in connecting with Taiwan's semiconductor supply chain and help Taiwanese businesses integrate into the European industrial core. "Silicon Saxony," held from June 15-17, 2026, at Dresden Airport in Germany, hosted the 20th "Silicon Saxony Days 2026." Over 2,000 elites and decision-makers from the global semiconductor industry attended, setting a new record for event participation. Taiwan's De-risking and Resilience Worthy of Cooperation Notably, Taiwan was selected as the official "Special Partner Country" this year. Ambassador Kuei Chung-liang of the Taipei Representative Office in Germany was invited to deliver a speech titled "Taiwan – A Natural and Values-Based Partner for Democratic Economies." Ambassador Kuei Chung-liang was invited to deliver a speech titled "Taiwan – A Natural and Values-Based Partner for Democratic Economies" at the opening ceremony of "Silicon Saxony Days." (Photo courtesy of the Taipei Representative Office in Germany) Ambassador Kuei emphasized that Taiwan and Germany share democratic values, with Taiwan ranking 12th globally in the EIU Democracy Index and sixth in the IMD World Competitiveness Ranking. Notably, Taiwan produces over 90% of the world's advanced chips and AI servers. For instance, NVIDIA's new generation AI platform, Vera Rubin, was realized through the collaborative efforts of 150 Taiwanese companies. Taiwan (T-A-I-W-A-N) truly lives up to its interpretation as a "Top-AI-Wonderful & Attractive-Nation." It is particularly a global model for successful "de-risking" and demonstrating "resilience," receiving enthusiastic applause from the audience. Ambassador Kuei also cleverly used the acronyms of Taiwan and Germany to praise Taiwan as Germany's "ROC partner" (Reliable, Outstanding, Constructive) and Germany as Taiwan's "BRD partner" (Best, Remarkable, Decisive). He expressed hope for deeper cooperation in advanced fields such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI), and green energy to achieve a win-win outcome. Saxony State Premier Witnesses the Establishment of the German-Taiwanese Economic Forum Furthermore, Saxony State Premier Michael Kretschmer met with Ambassador Kuei prior to the opening ceremony for extensive discussions on bilateral relations between Taiwan and Germany. In his opening address, Premier Kretschmer repeatedly praised Taiwan's high-tech achievements, stating that Germany has much to learn from Taiwan and pledged full support to ensure the smooth progress of TSMC's plan to establish its first European semiconductor wafer fabrication plant (ESMC) in Dresden, the capital of Saxony. Another highlight was the official launch of the "German-Taiwanese Economic Forum" (Deutsch-Taiwanisch Wirtschaftsforum) at the opening ceremony, initiated by Daniela Kluckert, former Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of Transport and Digital Infrastructure, and Frank Müller-Rosentritt, former Member of the German Bundestag. Ambassador Kuei and Premier Kretschmer signed the forum's certificate of establishment, witnessing this important milestone in Taiwan-Germany economic and trade cooperation. Ambassador Kuei expressed hope that the association would further assist German SMEs in connecting with Taiwan's semiconductor supply chain and help Taiwanese businesses integrate into the European industrial core. During "Silicon Saxony Days," Ambassador Kuei, accompanied by representatives from the host "Silicon Saxony" association, visited Taiwanese exhibiting companies and representatives of Taiwanese supporting companies, who expressed their gratitude for the government's care.
