President Lai Ching-te met with the Asia-Pacific Society for Regenerative Medicine today (15th). The President stated that this year is an important milestone for the development of regenerative medicine in Taiwan. In his speech, the President first affirmed the Asia-Pacific Society for Regenerative Medicine's contributions since its establishment in 2024. Whether it was organizing regenerative medicine technology seminars, training courses for cell physicians, or assisting in organizing international biomedical and biotechnology innovation exchange activities during Taipei International Computer Show this year, the society has brought continuous innovative momentum to Taiwan's biomedical industry. The President stated that regenerative medicine is a key field for future global healthcare. In 2021, the government significantly amended the "Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Industries Development Act" and strengthened measures for talent retention and recruitment, investment tax credits, and R&D and equipment tax credits, continuing to promote the development of the biotechnology and smart healthcare industries. After taking office in 2024, he also established the "Healthy Taiwan Promotion Committee" at the Presidential Office, with the promotion of regenerative medicine, smart healthcare, and precision medicine being continuous directions of government effort. The President pointed out that this year is an important milestone for the development of regenerative medicine in Taiwan. With the official implementation of the "Regenerative Medicine Act" and the "Regenerative Medicine Product Act," regenerative medicine is entering a new era of institutionalization and legalization. Taiwan's entire process, from medical technology execution, product R&D, to cell preparation, is now under standardized management, implementing tiered and separated safety management. The hope is that regenerative medicine can flourish while balancing innovation and risk control. The President emphasized that strengthening the collection and application of data by medical institutions has always been an issue of concern for the society. The government will continue to work hard to build a regenerative medicine ecosystem. The President said: "(Original sound) In the future, the government will continue to strengthen digital governance and gradually deepen data collection, analysis, and application to jointly build a safer and more internationally competitive regenerative medicine ecosystem." Finally, the President also stated that health is a basic human right. The government will continue to be the most solid backing for the biomedical industry and looks forward to working hand-in-hand with the Asia-Pacific Society for Regenerative Medicine to make the people healthier, the nation stronger, and to embrace Taiwan to the world, jointly building the biomedical industry into the next "Guardian Mountain."
