Today (the 15th) is Police Day. President Lai Ching-te posted on Facebook, stating that the work of the police is very arduous. Every lawful duty and professional judgment brings an extra measure of peace of mind to Taiwanese society. He expressed to all police colleagues nationwide, "You have all worked hard, thank you."
The President pointed out that in the past 10 years, the incidence of violent criminal cases in Taiwan has continued to decline. This is an achievement gained through the sweat and even life-threatening risks of all police colleagues. The police are the most crucial guardians of Taiwan's enviable public safety.
The President also stated that to cope with the rapid evolution of emerging technologies and crime patterns, the government continues to provide more support to police colleagues, including accelerating the enhancement of technological law enforcement capabilities, improving forensic and bomb disposal effectiveness, strengthening communication technology for case handling, and replacing outdated police vehicles. In terms of personal equipment, plans are also underway to procure "tactical bulletproof vests" and "tactical holster sets" to enhance the safety of frontline officers during duty.
The President also noted that the intensity and risk of police work are extremely high. Therefore, in March of this year, the criminal bonus and heavy workload bonus were increased. In addition to the increase in the heavy workload bonus for municipalities, police colleagues in 13 non-municipality counties and cities on the main island are also included in the scope of application, with a maximum increase of 40% in支給. This is the most direct affirmation for police colleagues.
The President emphasized that the police are the guardians of the people, and the government has the responsibility to be their strongest support. We will continue to work hand in hand to bring greater peace of mind to the people, a more stable society, and a safer nation. (Editor: Chung Chin-lung)
