Kuomintang (KMT) Chairperson Cheng Li-wen led a delegation to visit the United States. The KMT stated today (15th) through a press release that during her in-depth exchanges with several heavyweight think tanks in Washington, Cheng Li-wen emphasized that if the status quo across the Taiwan Strait is to be changed in the future, it must be based on respecting the will of the people on both sides, especially the will and choice of Taiwan's 23 million people, which must be fully respected. This is the KMT's firm stance and belief, consistent with the direction of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait that the United States and the international community generally expect. KMT Chairperson Cheng Li-wen departed on the 1st to begin a 16-day visit to the United States, visiting major U.S. cities such as San Francisco, Boston, New York, and Washington. During her trip, she was invited to attend a seminar hosted by the Stimson Center and participate in exchange activities co-organized by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and the Brookings Institution, to explain the KMT's ideas on cross-strait relations, Taiwan-U.S. cooperation, and peace in the Indo-Pacific region to the U.S. policy circle. The KMT issued a press release on the 15th, stating that at the seminar co-hosted by CSIS and the Brookings Institution, attendees paid close attention to the situation in the Taiwan Strait, cross-strait interactions, U.S.-China relations, and Taiwan's future development direction. Questions from the floor were very enthusiastic, and Cheng Li-wen fully elaborated on the KMT's policy ideas on maintaining peace in the Taiwan Strait, deepening Taiwan-U.S. cooperation, promoting cross-strait dialogue, and building the First Island Chain into a "Chain of Peace and Prosperity." The KMT stated that Cheng Li-wen emphasized at the meeting that the KMT has always believed that any arrangements for changing the status quo across the Taiwan Strait in the future must be based on respecting the will of the people on both sides, especially the will and choice of Taiwan's 23 million people, which must be fully respected. This is the KMT's firm stance and belief, and it is consistent with the direction of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait that the United States and the international community generally expect. Cheng Li-wen also stated that in the face of rapid global changes, Taiwan needs crisis management and, more importantly, needs to build a systematic peace framework. Through continuous in-depth exchanges with the U.S. policy, academic, and think tank communities, not only can mutual understanding be enhanced, but it will also help the international community gain a more comprehensive understanding of the KMT's policy proposals for pursuing peace, stability, and prosperity, contributing more constructive strength to the long-term peace of the Taiwan Strait and the Indo-Pacific region.
