Taiwan is hosting the Rotary International Convention for the first time in 32 years. Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung explained its connection to diplomatic work from two perspectives. Firstly, non-governmental organization (NGO) diplomacy: Lin Chia-lung hopes Taiwan can continue to deepen its global connections through international NGO networks. Secondly, the principles of Rotary align with the goals of the "Rongbang Initiative," which is our nation's commitment to establishing equal and mutually beneficial partnerships with friendly nations.
#Reported by reporter Wang Chao-kun# Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung was invited to attend the Taipei International Rotary Convention. He posted on Facebook that over 30,000 Rotarians from more than 140 countries gathered in Taipei. He was deeply moved when the national flag and "Taiwan" appeared at the ceremony.
Lin Chia-lung pointed out that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs actively assists distinguished guests from various countries attending the convention with their visa applications. This is because we hope to welcome more international friends to visit and understand Taiwan, and through international NGO networks, allow Taiwan to continue deepening its connections with the world.
Lin Chia-lung further cited Rotary's emphasis on the "Four-Way Test" and "Service Above Self." He stated that "Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?" These "Four-Way Test" principles align with the direction and goals of "Comprehensive Diplomacy" and the "Rongbang Initiative" promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Lin Chia-lung further elaborated that the Rongbang Initiative aims to establish partnerships of equality, mutual benefit, and common growth between Taiwan and its friendly nations. It not only seeks to assist in the overall development of friendly nations but also to ensure that the results of cooperation genuinely improve the well-being of their people, strengthen bilateral ties, and enable Taiwan and its friendly nations to move towards a better future through mutual benefit and shared prosperity. Lin Chia-lung said: "(Original sound) Friendly countries have their own needs, and we connect with them to help them find development models."
Lin Chia-lung is a member of Rotary. He expressed his joy as a Rotarian in welcoming fellow members from around the world to Taiwan. As the Minister of Foreign Affairs, he will continue to work towards Taiwan engaging with the world in a sincere, equal, and mutually beneficial manner, and for the world to better understand Taiwan.
