In response to Kuomintang (KMT) Chairperson Cheng Li-wen's statement that the 1992 Consensus has nothing to do with 'One Country, Two Systems,' the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) stated today (15th) that the 2019 'Xi Five Articles' integrated the '1992 Consensus, One Country, Two Systems, and the Taiwan Solution under Two Systems,' leaving no room for the Republic of China (Taiwan) to exist. KMT Chairperson Cheng Li-wen delivered a keynote speech titled 'Journey for Peace and Prosperity in the US, China, and Taiwan' at the Chinese American Association of the West Coast in Los Angeles on the 14th local time. Cheng stated that the '1992 Consensus' has nothing to do with 'One Country, Two Systems.' She further added that in 2019, the speech by General Secretary Xi Jinping was deliberately taken out of context and simplified by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP). The original version of the '1992 Consensus' did not include 'One Country, Two Systems.' She claimed that the DPP intentionally stated that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) unilaterally changed the content of the '1992 Consensus' and linked it to 'One Country, Two Systems,' which is entirely untrue. Xi Jinping absolutely did not say this in 2019, but the '1992 Consensus' was unfairly blamed. The MAC stated that the 2019 'Xi Five Articles' defined the '1992 Consensus' as 'Both sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to one China, and strive together for national reunification,' and advocated for 'exploring the 'Taiwan solution' under 'Two Systems'.' This integrated the '1992 Consensus, One Country, Two Systems, and the Taiwan Solution under Two Systems,' leaving no room for the Republic of China (Taiwan) to exist. The MAC concluded by saying that it is well-known that the CCP's policy towards Taiwan is to govern Taiwan using the 'Taiwan Solution under Two Systems,' similar to Hong Kong. This was also a key point emphasized by Xi Jinping in his 2019 speech commemorating the 40th anniversary of the 'Message to Compatriots in Taiwan.' Cheng Li-wen, knowing that the Taiwanese people oppose 'One Country, Two Systems,' deliberately blurred the focus, which is not commendable. (Editor: Shen Zhen-jiang)
