Taiwanese-American swimmer Hannah Annabell won the gold medal in the women's 200m individual medley final at the Chung Cheng Cup Swimming Championships today (15th) with a time of 2:11.72, breaking the 17-year-old national record. Her next goal is to stand on the podium at the Nagoya Asian Games.
The 115th National Chung Cheng Cup Swimming Championships was the last chance to qualify for the Nagoya Asian Games. On the final day of the competition, Taiwanese-American swimmer Hannah Annabell competed in the 200m individual medley, finishing with a time of 2:11.72. This time broke the national record of 2:12.55 set by Cheng Wan-jung at the 2009 Asian Championships. Including her performances in the 100m and 200m butterfly events earlier, Annabell broke three national records at this Chung Cheng Cup, making her the biggest winner.
In a post-race interview, Annabell assessed her current condition as "quite good." She mentioned that she had specifically asked her coach in the United States to train more butterfly, an event she was somewhat afraid of, and it had yielded good results. She was particularly pleased to have broken through her personal best in the 200m individual medley, an event where she had seen little improvement since the Paris Olympics. "I'm very happy to have broken through myself again," she said.
Returning to compete in Taiwan after 8 months since the National Games, Annabell smiled and said she was "very excited." She didn't overthink the competition, approaching it with the mindset of pushing her limits and swimming freely. Therefore, she was thrilled to have broken three national records, though she expressed lingering dissatisfaction with her 200m freestyle performance, stating, "I need to strengthen that when I get back."
Notably, Annabell has met the qualifying standards for the Nagoya Asian Games in six events. She will return to the United States for training and will discuss the best competition plan with her coach. Her goal is to win a medal for Taiwan in women's swimming at the Asian Games, something that hasn't happened in 16 years. "I might train a bit more in the individual medley, and I hope to bring glory to Taiwan and stand on the Asian Games podium."(Editor: Liao Yi-ting)
